About
V. Victoria Shroff, KC is Canada’s first and only animal law lawyer appointed King’s Counsel (KC), a prestigious recognition of exceptional legal distinction. Based in British Columbia, she is one of Canada’s first—and the province’s longest-serving—animal law lawyers.
Victoria is Adjunct Professor of Animal Law at UBC’s Peter A. Allard School of Law and teaches at Capilano University. She founded Canada’s first Animal Law Pro Bono Clinic and created Paws of Empathy, an animal law literacy program for children. She is also the founding chair of the national Canadian Animal Law Study Group.
She authored Canadian Animal Law (LexisNexis), widely regarded as the “go to” textbook in the field, with a second edition forthcoming in 2025. Victoria also helped shape BC’s groundbreaking legislation linking companion animals to family law.
